ZenSpace welcomes everyone
to learn, practice, and enjoy Zen meditation. While we encourage donations
to help defray facility costs, we do not charge fees for membership
or participation in any events.
Anyone
who has demonstrated a commitment to Zen practice is eligible for membership,
subject to the approval of the Board of Directors. Members are expected
to support ZenSpace by regular attendance and are encouraged to contribute
time and energy to maintaining the center's schedule and facilities.
Membership does not require the formal taking of Buddhist precepts or
vows. Membership duties may include leading regularly scheduled meditation
periods, offering meditation instruction to newcomers, and production
and maintenance of the ZenSpace web site and other publications.
The Board of Directors oversees
the general operations of the center. The Board will be elected each
year by the membership at an annual membership meeting. Candidates for
the Board should have practiced Zen meditation for at least two years
and demonstrated a commitment to ZenSpace and its charter. All members
are welcome to nominate candidates to the Board.
Although membership in ZenSpace
does not require becoming a Buddhist, the Precept ceremony is available
to anyone who wishes to make a formal commitment to the Buddhist path.
Anyone who has practiced meditation for at least 3 months, and who has
demonstrated a commitment to the ZenSpace community may speak with Facilitator
about this ceremony.
In all our activities, we
strive to maintain an inclusive and compassionate atmosphere that supports
the meditation practice of all of our members and associates.
